Products and Capabilities

ADI's technology focused products and capabilities serve both the defence and civil markets.

As one of Australia's leading software development houses, ADI provides large scale systems integration, project management and software engineering and development.

Defence

Australia's military forces are a showcase of ADI's products and services.

The company is the Australian Defence Force's major supplier of command, control communications, computers, intelligence systems and electronic warfare (C4ISREW).

Our shipbuilding credentials include construction of the world-leading Huon Class minehunters, we complete highly complex systems integration and refit of weapons systems, upgrade tasks and through life support for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). ADI is upgrading the combat systems of the RAN's guided missile frigates (FFG). ADI is the prime contractor for the program to upgrade four RAN FFGs. The upgrade is the most extensive ever undertaken on Australian warships in country.

The installation of ADI's military satellite communications system on two of Australia's ANZAC Class ships has improved their capabilities to participate in international exercises.

ADI and Australian Aerospace, Eurocopter's subsidiary company, have signed two contracts totaling $200 million for the program which will supply 22 armed reconnaissance helicopters to the Australian Army. ADI is responsible for customising the helicopters' mission system, including the software, to meet local requirements.

A contract with the US Army will see 40 ADI produced High Mobility Engineering Vehicles (HMEV) in service in the US. ADI and its US partner Oshkosh Truck Corporation are bidding for a further contract with the US Army, which if successful, could lead to the supply of a further 1,500 vehicles. The vehicle, with front-end loader and backhoe, is in service with the Australian Army.

Low rate initial production has commenced of the 299 Bushmaster vehicles for the Australian Army. The delivery of the first vehicles took place last year. Full production is set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2004, with one vehicle produced every two days.

The optronics assembly and repair capability established in 1991 at ADI's facility on Garden Island, Sydney Harbour, will shortly undertake work on helmets and displays for the Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) project. The TopOwl helmet and the multi-function displays for the ARH are to be assembled and tested at ADI's Optronics facility. The facility also continues to support in service Tasman thermal imagers for the Australian Army. As a prime contractor, ADI has made its first deliveries of driver's night viewers for the Army's Leopard tanks under a A$4M contract.

Commercial

Many of the skills ADI has developed for the defence market are just as relevant to the commercial market.

ADI has adapted information systems developed from defence applications to win key state government transport contracts.

We have used the core design of our infantry mobility vehicle to produce commercial specialist vehicles for the security and fire industry.

Ferry construction and refurbishment projects are a direct result of our success in building minehunter ships for the RAN and refitting naval vessels.

Our upgrade and maintenance capabilities are employed on commercial vessels ranging from cruise liners to bulk tankers.

ADI's engineering skills range from the production of gas turbine marine acoustic modules through to light and heavy machining and fabrication of equipment for commercial industry and infrastructure.
