Headquarters Integrated Air Defence System (HQIADS)

In 1996, ADI was awarded a contract to upgrade the Air Defence Operations Centre and the Tactical Air Command at the HQIADS located at the Butterworth air force base in Malaysia. ADI's existing air environment system (A-FOCSS) was modified to include specialist air defence functions, and the new HQIADS system was delivered within eight months of contract award.

The HQIADS solution builds upon proven commercial software and hardware to provide a complete system for monitoring, planning and coordinating air defence operations and tasking air assets. It includes simulation, recording and fast replay for training and post exercise analysis.

The specialist air defence functions of the HQIADS solution include:

  • Live data feeds from a number of air defence radar systems
  • Attack planning tools such as route planning, 'fly the plan', de-confliction, and automatic air tasking orders
  • Totes displaying air raid warnings, ground and naval radar status, mission details, fighter status and alert status
  • Threat assessment including alerts on zone infringements, resource levels and base weather
  • Alarms on selected categories and track strengths
HQIADS provides a modern recognised air and surface picture, real-time track updates and advanced map management
