Joint Military Decision Support System

In 1996, the American company, Booz Allen and Hamilton (BAH), awarded ADI a contract to develop the software for the Joint Military Decision Support System (JMDSS). The JMDSS is a key component of the Royal Thai Supreme Command (RTSC) C3I system developed by BAH for the government of Thailand.

The JMDSS provides planning, reporting and monitoring functions to the Supreme Commander and his staff. It supports the three services - Navy, Army and Air Force - of the Royal Thai Supreme Command individually, jointly and in coalition. The capabilities of the system are numerous and include:

• Display of current operational status in a graphical multi-tasking environment
• Near real-time situation awareness
• Military formatted messaging that is compatible with US Armed Forces
• Multilingual support (English and Thai modes)

Designed to progressively introduce new technology to the client, the JMDSS was implemented in three evolutionary phases over a three year project development life cycle.

• Phase one
• Rapid prototyping and implementation of isolated Local Area Networks (LANs)
• Email services to local users using US military formatted message formats
• Implementation of common office automation applications to support daily administrative activities
• User training on deployed application sets and network management
• Phase two
• LANs were inter networked, providing a seamless interface and data transfer between users
• Establishment of gateways to legacy mainframes at each service component and the RTSC
• Initial development of mobile command posts
• Phase three
• System integration
• Final maturation of the LAN/Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure
• System testing
• Customer evaluation (90 day reliability test).
