20mm Phalanx AmmunitionADI's 20mm Phalanx ammunition conforms to the design parameters of NATO STANAG and is an improved version of the US discarding sabot ammunition that is manufactured under licence at ADI's Benalla facility in Victoris, and is currently in use with the Australian Defence Force. The ammunition is designed for use with the phalanx close in weapons system.
The phalanx system is employed as a fast reaction, rapid fire 20mm gun system that provides terminal defence against anti ship missiles and other incoming air targets. ADI's 20mm Phalanx ammunition employs a specially designed double based solvent type powder. The composition is primarily nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine with added stabiliser, ballistic moderants and flash suppressant. The powder in ADI 20mm Phalanx ammunition has extremely clean burning characteristics and is an excellent replacement for ammunition of this nature that exhibits barrel fouling.
